Class of 1963 Johnakin High School, married to the former Janie Crawford class of 1963.

· Served 25 Years US Army (Retired). 

· Served 20 year as a Correction Officer obtaining the rank as Captain (Retired). 

· Work in SC Mental Health (Retired). 

· Two Children "Raymond Bryon and Robbyn" - also 5 Grand Children.

· Hobbies: fishing, hunting and shooting.

· Church: Antioch Baptist, Koon Rd., Columbia, SC. Deacon Board, Male Choir, Brotherhood, Usher Board, and Hospitality

I graduated from Johnakin High School in 1962. I went into the Army in October  1963 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6 in September 1967.I graduated from Palmer College w/honors,  Class of 1970 with an Associate ‘s degree in Accounting. I graduated from Benedict College, magna cum laude, Class of 1975 with a BS in Business Administration.  I received a Masters of Accountancy degree from the University of South Carolina in 1976.


I worked at Blue Cross-Blue Shield for 3.5 years from early 1970 to spring 1973 and then left to  return to school.  Upon receiving my Master’s,  I worked at Benedict College from summer ‘76 till summer ’79. In summer 1979 I went to work for the state of South Carolina as an accounting manager at a small state agency and retired as a budget analyst/ budget supervisor from one of the largest state agencies in August 2010.


I grew up a Baptist in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Marion.  I am now a member of “I. DeQuincey Newman  United Methodist Church”  where I’ve been a member for the past 26 years.  I’ve held various offices at IDNUMC  the most notable being Chair of the Administrative Council,  Lay Leader and Church Treasurer.


I was inducted into Beta Alpha Psi,  the national accounting honor fraternity in 1975 and I was initiated into “Phi Beta Sigma” fraternity in 1978.   I Became a Certified Government Finance Officer in 1993. I am married to Angie Moody King and  have been so since July 1967.  We have 2 adult children, Terrence A. and Tanya A.  plus 2 grandchildren.  We are all members of  I. D. Newman UMC.   Since retiring,  I work with my church in whatever capacity they need.

(One of the first Black air traffic controllers in the Southeast Region &

the first Black computer programmer, the Atlanta Center, Hampton, GA)

 

Willie R. Johnson was born the only child of Willie Mack Johnson and Annie Louise Johnson on August 9, 1944 in Marion (Spring Branch), South Carolina.

 

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Marion County Public Education System where he graduated from Johnakin High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1962.

 

The United States Air Force where he was trained as an air traffic controller. 1962-1966

 

South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, South Carolina where he studied in the field of Mathematics Education (1966-1970)   

 

Indiana University, Bloomimgton, Indiana where he received the equivalence of a PhD Degree in Computer Technology; (1978)

 

International Seminary, Plymouth, Florida where he was conferred a PhD Degree in

Biblical Studies and a PhD Degree in Theology (1986-1989)
